Introducing Our Culture Club: How the BBD Boom Team Stay Connected and Inspired

April 17, 2023

Our talented team is what makes BBD Boom thrive as a business, and our strong company culture is at the heart of it all. We understand the importance of connectedness and community (especially with team members located all around the world!) and that’s why we created our Culture Club. From social events to raising awareness and giving back, our dedicated team of employees plan an array of events and activities throughout the year that not only support causes close to our hearts, but ensure each and every member of the team feels valued, included, and inspired to do their best work. Read on to find out what we do and why we do it.

The team behind the scenes

Our Culture Club’s made up of four core members, each bringing unique skills and ideas to the table. We have Designer Kirsty Thomas, HubSpot Specialist Katie Smith, and HubSpot Executives Jess Irvine and Harrison Allen. Each and every person in the group lives and breathes Boom’s company values (curiosity, respect, positivity, ambition, accountability) and uses them as the foundation of everything they do.

A regular agenda to keep us connected

Each month, we aim to arrange one in-person event – whether that’s a meal out, a spot of lunch in the local gardens, a BBQ on the beach (weather permitting!), or a round of virtual darts.

On top of this, we host monthly virtual quizzes and book clubs, and take part in awareness days around the world, from important causes like Stress Awareness Month and International Women’s Day, to weird and wonderful events like International Chocolate Day.

Supporting charities close to our hearts

At Boom, we believe in giving back, and every six months we select a charity that is personal to many of our team members, working hard to raise as much money as possible.

For the first half of 2023, we have selected Mind – a UK-based charity that provides advice and support to people who experience mental health problems. So far, we have taken part in the charity’s Time to Talk Day – a campaign aimed to end mental health stigma and discrimination that invites people to start a conversation about mental health. Not only was it wonderful to raise awareness for such a good cause but the team felt empowered and even more connected to each other than they did before.

A few activities of late

Our goal is to create exciting events and activities that bring the team closer together, both virtually and in person. With a predominantly remote workforce, we’ve hosted virtual quizzes, book clubs, picnics, Macmillan Coffee Mornings, and even undertaken a 5-million step challenge (a cumulative total for the whole team over the course of a month – we’re not that crazy!).

We’ve whipped up pancakes in the office on Shrove Tuesday, thrown virtual darts (accompanied by nachos, wings, and drinks, of course) at Boom Battle Bar, and dressed up bright for Wear Red Day.

What's in the pipeline

We’ve got an exciting few months ahead of us with a team picnic in the gardens, preparation for a big fundraiser and a Grand National Sweepstake. Keep your eyes peeled for an update soon…
