Katie Smith’s First Month at BBD Boom

BBD Boom's newest apprentice, Katie speaks about her journey up to joining Boom, and how her first month as Inbound Executive was.

Your first day in a new role is always nerve wrecking, but starting a new position in the middle of a global pandemic is something else. After finishing my Media A Level, I immediately realised that I wanted to go into the digital marketing industry, but I wasn’t sure how to go about this.

I figured the best place to start would be focusing on some Digital Marketing courses, so I completed a few whilst looking for an apprenticeship. Then the BBD Boom apprenticeship came up; I instantly applied and before I knew it I was meeting the Solutions Team members; Imogen, Tommy and Katie T for a coffee (socially distanced, of course) and was offered the job the same day.

I was so pleased, as from the get go, BBD Boom showed to be a supportive and growing company. On my first day, I promptly started one of the HubSpot certifications that they recommended. Within my 3 weeks here, I have currently completed 4 of the certifications to help broaden my knowledge on Inbound Marketing. These certifications include: Inbound, Marketing Software, Sales Software and Service Hub Software. With the addition of a Google Display Ads course and a LinkedIn Beginners course.

I was very nervous to start my first day, even though it was only through a screen, but I was put at ease by such a warm welcome from the team. My first day was spent with Tommy, walking me through the ins and outs of BBD Boom and the softwares they use. I then began working through a training deck that was put together for me by the team.

At school I was a very creative person, and that was definitely shown through my work, so I was lucky enough to have been given the opportunity to create some social post designs for the Solutions Team, and some thumbnails for videos for a BBD Boom campaign in Canva. In addition to this, I was involved in a data cleanse to help improve the quality of our data within our CRM, HubSpot. 

The further I get into my time here, I am being awarded with more tasks to help the company and I am really feeling like part of the team. 

Overall, I have truly enjoyed my first few weeks here. The team is so supportive and welcoming. I am excited to continue learning and developing new skills to put to use! I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me here.
