March 16, 2018

Content marketing is one of the most effective forms of inbound marketing. It costs 62% less than outbound marketing and generates 3X as many leads.

Content marketing is one of the most effective forms of inbound marketing.

It costs 62% less than outbound marketing and generates 3X as many leads. Added to that, it’s great for your SEO and PPC strategy and your social media presence. Oh, and companies that put priority on their blogging are 13X more likely to enjoy positive ROI on their inbound marketing than those companies who don’t!

That said, it is time consuming and sometimes challenging trying to think of ideas. What do your readers want to learn about? What will they find interesting? How can you think of new ideas to keep it fresh? Here’s some top tips:

Keep it fresh

Follow trends, keep up to date with industry news and think how that affects not only your business but your readers and your potential prospects. Say for example, you’re a B2B tech company. You could do a simple search of ‘B2B tech news’ and instantly access the latest news at the click of a button. Sign up for newsletters and receive ideas straight to your inbox. Or, have a look on LinkedIn at the trends and join industry-related discussion groups.

Look at your SEO search terms

Take a look at how people have ended up on your website – what did they search for to get there? It might give you an indication as to what people want. That way you’re creating content that will not only reinforce your SEO strategy but give them exactly what they want to know. The bonus here is that you can use it to cleverly promote your product and services… win win!

Have themes/pillars

If you have your general themes/ pillars, then you can identify topics within that and keep a bank of ideas and titles for when you’re really stuck. What we mean by this is you could have your pillars as: lead generation, inbound marketing, sales, and customer relationships. Underneath these topics you can break them down to create titles.

What are other people doing?

There’s no harm in taking inspiration from your competitors as long as you don’t plagiarise. Take a look at what other businesses are doing and see how they’re doing things. It could even be to look at their general style, how often they’re posting and where they’re sharing their content, but don’t forget to look at the topics they are covering and what they have to say.
